Men in Colors other than BLUE!

Shopping for people isn't always a cup of tea you know. Sometimes it is DOWN RIGHT ANNOYING!!

A lot of people actually say they want to change their closets/the way they dress, but really don't. I end up having to do the same job twice.

In my family, we love fashion. I mean my son loves clothes and looking good, so does my hubby (he is another story entirely!) And there is no color that we wont wear. My husband owns literally every color shirt possible! His ties are something I need to post about!!

I am bringing this up because I tend to forget sometimes, that not everyone is as evolved. I don't discriminate at all, but sometimes , Nigerian men can be the hardest people to shop for. They would rather just stick to what they know and not venture into anything new , which limits me professionally. A lot of Nigerian men think its effeminate to wear pink. Do they realize how those softer colors look against their dark skin?? Or how sexy women find it?? I guess not!

Brown is one of my clients within the corporate world in naija. He works for a telecom company and wears strictly suits. I started shopping for him last year and on his most recent shopping stint, he really wanted to break away from his usual colors(or so I thought). He has seen pictures of my husband and said that he would love to dress like him. He actually had the audacity to say that I was holding out on him as I do not send him colors that my husband wears. Now mind you, he has filled out my profile o, and has FIRMLY stated that he would never wear pink. Yet the picture he is complaining about, my hubby had on a grey 2 piece, 2 button suit, a pink shirt and blue paisley tie. Even if I say so myself my hubby was looking FIERCE! but you see, I do all of his shopping too, and there is no one telling me not to buy this color or that. my husband trusts me and knows thatif i am buying it, its because I believe its hot and its fashionable. Yes he is a clothes whore... what can I say, so am I! The more stunning the color, the more he loves it.

Anyway, when he contacted me this time and deposited the money, he said I shouldn't hold back...I was getting VERY excited here! As much as I love dressing my girls, I also love dressing my men, knowing the effect they have on the women when they see them decked out! The key is that women know what other women look for. Unfortunately, it takes a "GROWN" woman to be able to send her man out looking fierce and not being worried about how GREAT he looks. Its a pride for me...and my husband enjoys this daily!

Sigh... it should have ended nicely here, right??

Nope... it didn't!!

I did his shopping over the course of 2 weeks. He arrived for his conference yesterday ready to pick up his stuff. Now mind you, his favorite shirt colors are blue, yellow and white. Lilac has never touched his skin (at least so i think ) - he probably owns every shade of blue!
This time I didn't buy a single blue shirt - whats the point?? He said he wanted to change that , right?Boy was I wrong! He totally hated the pink shirts I bought without even opening them from the packs! I bought 3 different pink shirts from Hugo Boss(solid pink), Charles Tyrwhitt (herringbone pink pinstripe) and Paul Smith (multi color stripe -pink being the dominant color) . All the ties were Mimi Fong, in a paisley green (for his blue shirts) , a brocade red and another pink one! He hated them all!! Thank Goodness, i had a few other things that he did like, or else that might have been the end of that business relationship! Jeez!!

He went right back to BLUE! grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Everything went right back to the store.

Nobody ever said it was always easy :(

Now here is my question for everyone out there. Do you limit yourself by wearing only certain colors? I personally wear every single color on the rainbow ( not all together - LOL) but in one way or another...

My husband wears it all and LOVES it. Pink(our personal favorite), lilac, orange...sigh. Thinking about some of his shirt and tie combos ...sigh!

What do you think???

my husband is very adventurous n actually loves pink. i think he n ur man would definatley get along on that accord. but i won't lie remi there has been that occasional fleeting moment when the thot of how much time n how engrossed my husband is in him self n dressing up becomes a real big ?????. i get done dressing up way b4 he does. n not to mention how much time he spends in the bathroom. the man is always hugging up the mirror.
if i didn't know better i would use that m word. ok i'll say it metrosexual. but he doesn't swing that way thank God.
its bad enough that we women have to fight off other ladies off our men now to think of adding men to the equation. someone pls give us a break. ok that is for another day.

I love all colors.... went to church on sunday in a red gown and purple accessories... My sister thought i was crazy, she kept on going on and on about "no way , no purple, red is bad but purple worse now you combine both... God help you.."

It was good.. honestly, it was..

@ SNM...haba! Taking care of yourself is METROSEXUAL...and my hubby is definitely that too. But it doesnt mean he is anything other than a hetero male! Taking care of yourself isnt a bad thing you know...male or female! And yes they would get along famously, I am sure!!
Regarding chasing people off...dont bother yourself, really! Can anyone really stop anyone from looking at you or hitting on you?? You arent with them 24/7 you know...
We both get hit on by both sexes. Look at it this way, take it as a compliment and dont dwell on it too much. Who no like betta thing??

@Ms Zee...thats the spirit jare!! How many award shows have we watched where the colors are OUTSTANDING?? shoes and dress total opposites at times. There is nothing wrong with red and I am actually trying to get the purple YSL muse bag...sigh! So color isnt my problem at all, your sister needs to be a little more open-minded! I am sure you rocked it !

I love all colors.. I think we need to share ideas on how to combine it.. as in trade picks! i know how to color match without caring... I love to appear good in my clothing but I have one problem..not really problem but addiction with SLIM FITTING pant.. they do look good but do you think I can switch my style a lil bit and be a bit more adventrous with my dressing?

Slim fitting...not tight though! I feel uncomfortable wearing tight pants...

Color is my friend this year. I'm making more of a conscious effort to buy bright, especially since they seem to be in right now. I also plan to introduce my man to color....unfortunately he works for a company that allows them to be casual EVERYDAY....can you imagine? LOL. He doesn't know it yet but my goal is to transform that closet....LOL. And it's because I love him...really!

Geeeeezzzz...I love all colors too...I'm learning. I love the way u and ur hubby are in agreement with style and fashion...gosh it makes marriage so UN-BORING...as well as FUNNNN!!! Lemme start praying my future hubby will align to such tastess too...he he...

lol... your husbands fashion sense.. I just love... I'm like that.. no colour if off limits... I mix and match too... my friends used to find it slightly weird but years later they turn on girlfriends and see tracee ross in a purple shirt and yellow shoes and they go... ahhh.. i'm laughing like yes girls... i'm a revolutionary... changing the world one pair of shoes at a time... hehe... i can imagine how frustrating it is for you to shop for some people who are stuck in one fashion cycle sha...

I love color...and it shows when I dress. I am not one to match colors from head to toe, I like to accentuate. My boyfriend was pretty stiff when I first met him but now he is such a fly dresser...I've influenced him...hehe. Back to the topic he wears shirts and ties in all kinds of colors especially pink, which I find incredibily sexy. Some guys just aren't open minded. Did you ask your client what he was trying to imply when he said he wanted a "change"?

@Naijadude …thanks for commenting. Slim fitting pants aren’t bad, as they tend to bring out your figure. To step away from that, gradually incorporate other styles into your wardrobe that are equally flattering. There are several designers that make pants that will suit you …do you like the funky cargo pants?? Ed Hardy makes some mean pants for men too! Let me see, Miss Sixty’s line for men Energie also makes some crazy styles for men too. Let me know what you think of those. They aren’t all slim fitting pants, but the point is that sometimes the only thing that can get you away from a style are the details in another one! Plain pants aren’t going to do it for you, but lots of pockets, fairly destroyed pants might work…just remembered J. Lundenberg (spell check that , I have so much to write –forgive me) also makes some funky pants…

@Ms. May…Color should be everyone’s friend really. Imagine only wearing one color and the rest of the world wears it all. It does have its perks though…if you’re not really into fashion, you could get away with a handful of clothes all year!! That wouldn’t work for me though!
But jokes aside (because that really was a joke), I did the same thing when I met my hubby 6 years ago. I liked him when I met him, but thought his dressing was little too predictable for my liking. I am sure everyone knows this type of dressing – big shirt, jeans and loafers…or native wear.
So not going with the picture I had in mind for “us” LOL.
First plan was to shop more casual for him on his next birthday…which I did. Then because we dated long distance for so long, I always shopped for him when I went to visit him and he also shopped in NYC when he came over.
Needless to say, now he doesn’t own anything from before we met, baggy jeans are a thing of the past!
So you can do it too. Even with a casual work environment. My hubby doesn’t have to dress up to work, but he does as it is better for his clients. The rest of the guys over there stepped up their game (you know how men are, EGOS!)

@Jaycee …Yes, hubby and I are in agreement now, but we weren’t always that way! Trust me, it was a work in progress and there are still times that I might buy something and he might knock it, until I put the whole look together (he doesn’t remember what he has half the time)! Then its like “Ahhhhh, I love it!” I am like DUH (in my mind) Regarding our marriage, yes …we are very UN-BORING, might be because we aren’t very atypical, most of the time. But yes, we have a lot of fun together and because we realize exactly how important appearance is, we are very critical of each others appearance. Let’s not even talk about our son! We are lucky we didn’t have a girl; she would have been a total DIVA!
Here’s a thought, even if your hubby doesn’t align to your taste, there are subtle ways of making it happen… mine took all of 6 years!! Obviously I don’t give up .

@ ONB… yes, I need to post some pictures of him really…my dear hubby! Or better still go check out my website, though those pictures were OLD! I love the yellow pumps though…Canary Yellow is even hotter!! Keep up the color choices, you know purple is hot this year too as is Silver.
It’s not their fault really for not understanding, we were brought up to match. Headgear, bag and shoe must match or it seems like you’re off! It’s just how we were raised.

@ The makings of me…Thx for the comment. I agree men in softer colors are sexy as hell! Regarding the client - I ask so many questions at times that they chase me off the phone. One of my faults is that I am a bit of a perfectionist. I make sure that I ask all the questions well in advance to make sure I make very few mistakes. If I make a mistake once, I very rarely repeat it. I have to say that he did say he wanted the change, but chickened off on me…oh well, such is life.
Some guys don’t realize that how they dress is a major turn on. I am educating the world one man at a time…wish me luck!!

Hey BluntRemi, thanks for stopping by my blog :)
I think colours are cool as far as they are properly combined! I absolutely love it when people think outside the box when it comes to fashion. Whats the point of wearing a suit and a blue shirt everyday? Boring! After a while it becomes like a uniform!
My man is a metrosexual, I love seeing him all dressed up, especially for work. His nice tailored shirts and all, they keep asking him "whats the occasion?" at work! lol!

Pink is definitely sexy on men and the first time i saw it was on R. Kelly on one of the BET award shows and i was in love...

My husband will NOT wear pink...

Its definitely hard to shop for naija men. Very hard because they find it hard to actually step out of the box and try something new.

I love colors as well, but one thing i find it hard to try is Purple. I dont know why. I am not a purple girl and a lot of people think that purple would look good on me but i havent tried it and i definitely should.

I can only imagine how frustrated you were.

Being the pro that you are, i am sure you will be just fine. (smile)

@ Ladybug, thank you too for commenting... I think they have simply given metrosexuals a bad name. men who care about how they look , go to spas...arent bad! They make it easy for us to do all the things we want to do to them!! LOL...my hubby gets the same comments your hubby gets...i would rather dress up, than down!!

@ Bobby...thank you for visiting my blog. I did deal with it, the customer is ALWAYS right. So I just deal with it, I dont try to push people if they are truly not willing to change. I have done that in the past and noticed the items never get worn and they have wasted money. It doesnt help me if I dont get them things they will actually be willing to wear when i am not there!!!
Regarding purple...its relatively easy. if its a pair of shoes, you can easily pair them with jeans of almost any color and a top...if its a bag, its not meant to match...if its a sweater, laer with a subtle color. I had on my lilac sweater with a light - pink, button down top and I looked very "spring-like"! hope this helps :)

I'm loving the bold colors you and ur hubby wear. The man is in the education industry and absolutely refuses to wear a lot of shirts I get complaining they are too loud and lecturers dont dress that way. If he isnt going to wear them, then who will? Me?!?!?! *SIGH*

I'm coming over here more often. Could learn a lot of fashion tips and nudges from you hmmnnn?

I do wear a lot of colours, but my favourites are purple and black. However, last year, my sister hooked me up with a deep brown colour and everybody just loved it, so now I have one more favourite colour. Unfortunately, my oga aproko sticks to grey, brown, black and blue. Recently I hooked him up with a red tie and he was surprised how good he looked! He says he wants to change but alas...............nothing yet!

Bitchy said...

I can think of some colours I don't wear.... Oops actually I can't! I used to have a thing against orange, purple, and green.... but not anymore. That said, I don't wear much blue on top, even though all my jeans are blue... You know I've never actually stopped to think about the colour thing?

I've only just started dressing my boyfriend, and I think I may be subconsciously restricting him you know? But that said, I did do the dark pink shirt with pin stripes thing and he looked SO hot in it. I hate that shirt now. We fight and he comes in wearing it cuz he knows I'll melt, and I always do.

Grrrr!

@ bimbylads…thx for visiting my page darling. O ma fine GAN sef!!! I beg make sure I get to see the pictures…

@ ijeoma…thx for the compliment and for visiting my page. Pink is hot, I am happy you like it too.

@Mrs. Somebody…hurry up with the weight loss jare and let me help you shop for your new wardrobe, I can’t wait!! Thx for visiting, I will try and visit more often…

@ Calabar girl…we can make his wardrobe subtle, yet sexy. The pink we would use for him wouldn’t be loud, just subtle. In the educational field, because you are around students, you would be surprised how easy it would be to slip some color in. Oh well, I hope I can help you if we cant help him.

@ Waffarian…If we wait for oga aproko, you no go get changes o!!! You have to break them in gradually, with loads of compliments about how much it turns you on…watch as he will go out and buy them in truckloads!! Thx for visiting

@ Bitchy…blue on top might be a bit difficult to pull off with blue jeans(not because you cant-just too matchy-matchy), but if you’re wearing grey or black jeans that would be tight!!! You probably hate the shirt because he wore the life out of it, not because you hated the color, just the number of times it was worn!! Buy him some more and mix it up…you might like the results. But we always melt for reason or another…if not the shirt, then…maybe something else! Rest assured we all melt for one reason or another – its called love. Thx for visiting.

MY boyfriend is definetely adventurous with his dressing. Hes a self proclaimed metrosexual. I realized that he was bad when i noticed his wardrobe had more colour than mine . I usually buy clothes of the same colours ( blue , browns, green) not really adventurous. I am working on changing that though

lol...I think I'm like your client. I truly love all colors but then each time I look in my closet I'm surprised...black black black, blue blue blue, grey grey grey white white white..I really don't know how it happens, now shoes on the other end, you name the color I have it. I just haven't gotten there with clothes yet. My man on the other hand wears pretty much all colors and I love it, only thing I'm not feeling is that whole 'european fit' thingy, I'm just not feeling the slim pants and shirts on my man, something about it just ain't right...lol. BTW, I've been meaning to ask, how do you deal with clients that are far away? as far as measurements and stuff, will you ship?
